Gladiators v Tigers Postponed

7.30PM Update Monday 27th June:

Following consultation of 4 different Weather Forecast providers and having consulted directly with one specialist forecaster we have decided to CALL OFF tomorrow evening’s Fixture between the Gladiators and The Glasgow Tigers.

A belt of heavy and sustained rain is forecast from around 3-4pm to last until late Evening/ Early Hours of Tuesday.

To save unnecessary travelling; especially from our visitors, Team, Officials and their Supporters; and our own Team, Riders, Officials and valued supporters from all over the UK, we have made the decision to CANCEL the Fixture as soon as the inevitable; became as near to a certainty as we can be.

We will seek to rearrange the fixture with Glasgow and once approved by them and the BSPL,  we will inform everyone.

The next Fixture at The Coliseum will be an NDL Fixture against Mildenhall NEXT Tuesday 5th July and we will have some news on ticketing for that fixture on Wednesday Morning.

The Plymouth Westcolour Gladiators return to action at The Coliseum on Tuesday (Tapes Up 7.00pm) for what looks sure to be a mouth-watering Clash against one of the Titans of Championship and British Speedway, the Glasgow Tigers.

The Tigers enjoyed what their Team Manager Cammi Brown described as their best performance in 2 years when beating the table topping Leicester Lions at the weekend by 56 points to 34 points to move into second place in the Championship Table.

The victory was even more meritorious given the fact that The Tigers lost their No 1 Rider the former Speedway GP and British Champion Craig Cook following a nasty looking fall in Heat 1 when he was unable to avoid the Lions top Rider Nick Morris, who had shed a chain causing an unavoidable high speed crash between the pair.

Whilst Morris was able to continue, Cook, already nursing several other injuries, was forced to withdraw from the Meeting and is unable to ride at The Coliseum due to an accumulation of knocks. We all wish Craig a speedy recovery as he is former Track Record holder at The Coliseum and always a welcome and popular visitor.

If the Match didn’t already have enough spice, the added ingredient is sure to be the fact that The Tigers have booked their former Rider Richard Lawson as a Guest in the no 1 slot. The Cumbrian born Lawson, is the son of all time Glasgow Tigers hero Steve Lawson and the pair are colloquially known as “God” and “Son of God” respectively by Glasgow fans. It means a quick return to The Coliseum for Lawson who was a short time Gladiator at the end of the 2021 season and whose last minute decision to join Poole Pirates at the 11th hour for the 2022 season is already well documented.

Lawson was also excluded; as being responsible for a terrifying high-speed crash that saw Westcolour Gladiators Danish star Michael Palm-Toft nursing shoulder injuries and bad bruising, at Poole last week and his withdrawal from that meeting certainly cost the Westcolour gladiators a certain victory, instead they had to settle for a stunning 45 – 45 point draw at the fortress home of the Title favourites and 2021 season double winners.

It all adds to a “Match of the Season” billing as the Westcolour Gladiators lost narrowly by 49-41 points at the superb Ashfield Stadium Track when visiting Glasgow earlier in the season.

The Glasgow Tigers will line up-:

Richard Lawson (Guest)

Connor Bailey

Ulrich Ostergaard

Benjamin Basso

Tom Brennan

Danyon Hulme

Broc Nichol

Team Manager – Cammi Brown.

The Westcolour Gladiators are awaiting news on the fitness of Michael Palm-Toft who will make a late decision on his fitness following shoulder injuries and severe bruising. Because the medical report and tests did NOT indicate any concussion Michael will not be affected by any set concussion protocols although all concerned will undoubtedly take a long term view on Michaels well-being.

With Edward Kennett still missing due to his arm injuries, he sees a specialist again on Thursday, and Ben Barker missing as a result of shoulder injuries from a high speed crash last week, the Westcolour Gladiators bring in two highly popular Guest Riders with Chris Harris riding at No 1 in place of Kennett and Kyle Howarth, who was simply outstanding when replacing Barker in the Poole Match last week, earning a well deserve repeat Guest Rider opportunity.

The Westcolour Gladiators will make a late decision with Michael Palm-Toft and will operate Rider Replacement if he is not declared fully fit.
