Gladiators v Glasgow Tigers – Meeting Preview

The Westcolour Gladiators face a key fixture in their battle to secure a Play-Off spot against the Allied Glasgow Tigers at The Coliseum tomorrow evening.

With the Westcolour Gladiators currently in 5th place on 29 points and the top 6 qualifying for the Play-Offs, the Glasgow Tigers stunning 46-44 victory at Redcar last night now means they have secured the runner up spot in the League, and will progress directly to the semi-finals of the Play-Offs.

The Westcolour Gladiators still require one more point to be absolutely sure of qualification with unassailable leaders Leicester who join Glasgow in the semi finals; Poole and Edinburgh (currently fourth) who will be in the Quarter Finals by finishing in the top 6, with Redcar and Scunthorpe both mathematically able to reach the 30 point mark via a very specific sequence of results. Poole are guaranteed third spot and will play the side who finish sixth and the fourth and fifth placed teams face each other in the Quarter Finals.

The Allied Tigers welcomed back their iconic No 1 and former Coliseum Track Record holder Craig Cook from injury at Redcar, but a doubt may remain over his participation following a further injury last night, and with Ulrich Ostergaard and Benjamin Basso still nursing injuries they bring in Justin Sedgeman from Birmingham to guest for Basso and operate the Rider Replacement facility for Ostergaard.

As Ostergaard is officially 4th in the Tigers averages, although his average is almost identical to the young British Star Tom Brennan who is third in their averages, the R/R rides can be shared amongst Brennan and the other 3 riders in the team, Danyon Hume and the powerful looking reserve pairing of Broc Nichol and Connor Bailey.

The Allied Tigers lineup:

Criag Cook (subject the fitness assessment)

RR for Ulrich Ostergaard

Justin Sedgeman (Guest)

Danyon Hume

Tom Brennan (Captain)

Broc Nichol

Connor Bailey

TM Cameron Brown

The Westcolour Gladiators who are still without the injured Edward Kennett and the suspended Ben Barker and who have lost Alfie Bowtell and Dan Gilkes to season ending injuries are at least able to welcome back Michael Palm-Toft who has further rested his shoulder and nerve damage injuries and he will be supported by the also recently returned Hans Andersen.

The Westcolour Gladiators welcome the very popular Richie Worrall as guest for Edward Kennett and the very much in-form young British Star Leon Flint for Barker. The battles between Brennan and Flint who were Track Reserves in the SGP Round at Cardiff last week and who both scored 9 points in the Under 21 SGP Round at the same venue will be eagerly awaited with Leon sure to want “bragging rights” over his compatriot.

The Westcolour Gladiators have made 2 new signings whilst the transfer window remains open until the end of the week, by bringing in Lee Complin to replace the injured Alfie Bowtell and Connor Coles to replace Harry McGurk, who has also been suffering from some niggling injuries and a loss of confidence in recent weeks in what has turned out to be a tough baptism of fire in his debut Championship season. Both of these moves are subject to BSPL approval and ratification.

Lee Complin who returned to the track this season after a decade out of the sport and who lost his team place at Newcastle when they closed in mid summer, has been increasingly impressive in guest appearances for several Championship Teams and in NDL matches with his increasing race fitness being matched by some heavy scoring. Connor Coles is no stranger to the Coliseum and brings with him more experience than McGurk and the probability of chipping in with some vital points.

The Westcolour Gladiators will line up:

Richie Worrall (Guest)

Ben Morley

Leon Flint (Guest)

Michael Palm Toft

Hans Andersen

Lee Complin

Connor Coles

This is a massive match for the Westcolour Gladiators and one of the remaining two Home Fixtures that will define their season. Club bosses are keen for our wonderful supporters to turn out in large numbers as their vocal support, to match the anticipated usual large following that Glasgow traditionally have following them, and to be as always the vital 8th man. Please spread the word and hopefully we can all cheer the boys into a guaranteed Play Off sport before next week’s final rearranged Home League Fixture against the Redcar Bears.

Tickets are available ONLINE now via our Online Ticketing Portal:

A reminder that ALL Under 16’s GO FREE for the remaining Championship League and NDL League Fixtures; and are eligible for the very popular Interval Running Race around the Track with a small prize for each runner:

Tickets are also available via Cash + Card on the night, but the best way to secure a Seat in the NHS STAND (Home Straight) is to book early ONLINE. The First Bend VIP Stand is already SOLD OUT.

We should also point out that DISABLED Carer Free Tickets are no longer unfortunately available ONLINE. A small but not insignificant number have been abusing this FREE Entry privilege in sufficient numbers to be detrimental financially to the Club. The FREE CARER Offer is still available but via Cash Payment on the Turnstiles for ONE Free Carer where the Disabled person will require Proof of Disability in the form of authorised documentation from either a qualified NHS Doctor / Consultant or the relevant DWP paperwork. We are sorry if genuinely Disabled persons are impacted by this but unfortunately a number who do not have the Clubs interests at heart have resulted in this regrettable procedural change. It is also not fair on the vast majority who invested their hard earned cash in the Club via Season and Match Tickets honestly each week.

Your cooperation in this matter to help speed access for all and to avoid queues and to improve the Customer experience for all. THANK YOU

As always you can be the vital 8th man and the lads would very much welcome your vociferous and enthusiastic support once again, so please bring along a friend and help us to show everyone what a wonderful night of entertainment we get every Tuesday at 7 pm at The Coliseum.  The past few weeks have been tremendously difficult for us all with injuries, some controversial decisions going against us and some utterly mindless vandalism that will cost many thousands of pounds to replace let alone the stress it causes Mark and all of the wonderful support Team.

PLEASE rally around the Club and The Team, bring a friend and spread the word and remember UNDER 16’s GO FREE for the remaining League Fixtures (see the details above). Your support is always worth extra points and together we can beat all the odds and celebrate success together at the end of the season. These are tough times and in tough times the tough get going and there’s no one tougher than your Promoter, Team Manager and Team…. let’s all join in and beat the odds together. #GladiatorsREADY
