Plymouth Gladiators Statement

We wanted to send a quick update to all Gladiators Fans; Riders; Sponsors; Volunteers and Staff at this difficult time.

Most importantly, we hope that you will follow all of the advice to both look after yourselves and to do all that you can to stay fit and healthy.

Speedway Racing has to take a secondary place at the moment and whilst it is immensely frustrating that the Coronavirus pandemic could not have come at a worse time for The Club, we have to understand what the priorities are and to do all we can to look after one another and to stay safe.

We are a sport that relies on Gate Receipts for the bulk of our income and are acutely aware too that our Riders only earn money from Speedway when they race and that Sponsors will also be assessing their current Businesses to ensure that they ride out the storm and can survive and come through what could be a very difficult few months.

We will do all that we can in these circumstances to keep the Club afloat, so that we can be fit and ready to recommence when the Sport resumes, hopefully sometime during the Summer months.

Thanks to the work of an incredible group of Volunteers who have worked almost every day in often horrible and inclement weather during the winter months we have now almost completed a New Stand on the Home Straight that will accommodate between 400-500 people at full Capacity, and we have also refurbished and moved the previous Disabled Supporter Platform, to a place with an absolutely outstanding view and easy access, that is much closer to Food and Drink and Toilet facilities.

On the Commercial front we are very much in limbo due to the aforementioned requirement for Business to look out first and foremost for employees and their futures, but we hope that in the coming weeks, some hard work and plans in terms of some big announcements will come to fruition.

Our Community plans, based around enticing all Children 14 and Under to Speedway with a Free Season Pass and also engaging with The Polish Communities in Devon and Cornwall will continue, so that once ready, we can hit the ground running and make a fantastic night at the Speedway available and affordable for everyone.

We think everyone will want so fun and excitement, and we have the ideal product to deliver that.

Finally, we do have a couple of Vans, a Minibus and a Van to be precise and we would be delighted to put those at the disposal of any local or Community Group that may require assistance to fetch and carry food or other essential items to the elderly, the less physically able or anyone really in need.

Due to the location of our Management and Volunteers, this would specifically be in the Plymouth City Area and also up in Torbay.

If we can be of assistance to anyone, especially linked to Supporters or Groups that Supporters are aware of, please e-mail us in the first instance to:

admin@plymouth-speedway.com and copy in our Managing Director Mark Phillips at markphillips353@yahoo.co.uk or our Commercial Director Ian Jordan at ianm59jordan@googlemail.com

Please stay safe and look after yourselves and we hope to see you all down at The Coliseum very soon.

Regards

Mark, Mattie and Ian
