Gladiators v The Brummies Preview
The Plymouth Westcolour Gladiators continue their Championship League season on Tuesday evening with a Home Fixture against the Birmingham Brummies at The Coliseum.
The Westcolour Gladiators will be eager to maintain their unbeaten 2022 Home record and are chasing their 7th successive Home win to cement their place in the top 6 of the Table which will ensure an end of season Play Off spot. The Westcolour Gladiators currently lie in 4th place and could move into 3rd place with a win, having already beaten first and second place Leicester and Poole decisively at home.
The Westcolour Gladiators once again call up British Speedway legend Chris Harris to replace their injured Heat Leader Edward Kennett, who seems more hopeful of making a return to the saddle by the end of the season following serious arm injuries.
Edward has already seen a specialist who has suggested an operation will be necessary; but has a further appointment on the 30th June, when he is hopeful of getting a prompt Operation date. The experts have suggested that the recovery time after the operation should not be significant, so once the Operation is scheduled he hopes to return to the saddle within a few weeks.
Edward has confirmed that the plate in his arm that is causing all of the trouble was scheduled to be removed a few years ago after the 2019 speedway season but the impact of Covid 19 and the subsequent massive backlog in day to day operations has meant a hugely frustrating wait. The plate in his arm has moved over time and screws have loosened, this has caused nerve and ligament damage and the vibration on the injuries through the handlebars is causing further problems with muscle spasms. We all wish Edward the best of luck and hope to see him back in action later in the summer.
The Clubs other long term injury victim Dan Gilkes who is also recovering from serious arm injuries, a number of broken ribs and initially a problem with a collapsed lung continus to make slow but steady progress now that he is at home, and was a welcome visitor to watch the Clubs NDL Team, the SWTR Centurions in action at Oxford last week, and hopefully Dan will be able to make the longer trip from his Northamptonshire home to The Coliseum to get what is sure to be a hero’s welcome from the Home crowd, in due course.
The full Westcolour Gladiators line up on Tuesday night will be: Chris Harris; Alfie Bowtell; Ben Barker, Michael Palm-Toft, Hans Andersen, Harry McGurk and Ben Morley.
The Birmingham Brummies currently lie in 10th place in the table but that position belies the fact that they have ridden more matches away from their Perry Barr home at this stage of the season.
They have a strong looking septet headed by Danish International Claus Vissing, recently signed Justin Sedgeman who was on the rader of a number of Clubs including Plymouth at one stage and they will bring in Guest Rider and a regular Coliseum Stadium visitor from his NDL days in Berwick rider Leon Flint.
The middle order is augmented by Stefan Nielsen and Ashley Morris who are both capable of scoring heavily on their day, with James Shanes and Australian newcomer 16 year old James Pearson in the reserve berths. The Team is managed by ex Plymouth promoter Laurence Rogers.
The full Birmingham Brummies line up will be -: Claus Vissing; Stefan Neilsen, Leon Flint; Ashley Morris; Justin Sedgeman; James Shanes and James Pearson
