Gladiators v The Lions – Preview
The Plymouth Westcolour Gladiators will commence their Home Championship League season at The Coliseum against the 2019 League Champions the Leicester Lions on Tuesday Evening.
The Westcolour Gladiators picked up an excellent losing bonus point at Redcar in their first Away League Match last week and again face formidable opponents in the Lions who beat title holders and pundits favourites the Poole Pirates at Leicester on Saturday evening by a similar 48-42 scoreline.
The Westcolour Gladiators will approach the Fixture though with quiet confidence following an improved performance at Redcar and with clear signs that their Danish international stars Hans Andersen (who rode for the Lions in 2021) and Michael Palm Toft are reaching their peak form and with the excellent form so far at reserve from Dan Gilkes and solid backing from Ben Barker plus the always competitive Alfie Bowtell and Henry Atkins a close match is in prospect.
With Edward Kennet still awaiting a full diagnosis and specific treatment plan for his nasty arm injury; the Westcolour Gladiators will again use a Guest Facility at No 1 and have enlisted the services of Track Specialist Richard Lawson who has been in imperious form for Poole in the Championship so far this season; and who will undoubtedly be encouraged by the Poole Management and supporters; to help dent the early momentum of the Lions who will be one of the main contenders to Poole in the 2022 Championship race, a Title that the Westcolour Gladiators will also aspire to.
Leicester bring a Team full of Team and Individual Title winners spearheaded by the experienced Australian star Nick Morris, a former Somerset Rebel which is likely to entice many to make the short journey down the M5 to watch proceedings with a number of other former Rebels in action.
The Lions also include experienced British Internationals in Richie Worrall and the always exciting Kyle Howarth, the under-rated but very effective Connor Mountain and rising young British prospects in Anders Rowe and the Thompson Twins (Dan and Joe).
