With regards to our exhaustive efforts to find a cover for our injured number one rider, the Speedway Control Board (SCB) has now granted Plymouth a facility of 28 days for Nico Covatti, who was in our initial team declaration but, unfortunately, crashed whilst racing in the Argentinian Championships, in January.
This means that we are now able to use a guest rider to cover Nico’s position for a month.
The SCB has acknowledged the current shortage of heat leaders, and of our tireless efforts in trying to source a replacement number one.
The club would like to thank the SCB and appreciates the assistance and understanding that it has shown the Plymouth Prowpark Gladiators.

Plymouth Gladiators promoter Mark Phillips has postponed the Gladiators’ opening two home meetings of the season.
Extensive work has taken place on the Coliseum track over the winter but unprecedented rainfall totals in recent weeks have hampered efforts to put the circuit into fully raceable condition.
Consequently, the BSN Series matches against Poole this Saturday (March 30) and Oxford on April 6 are to be re-scheduled.
Phillips said: “The track is currently spongy and needs sunshine to bake the clay/shale.
“This weekend we will be taking off the surface on bends two and three and relaying with Type 1 aggregate to gain a solid base, but we still need three days of sunshine to dry the top layers.
“Due to the forecasts I cannot envisage any this week or next week in Plymouth, so unfortunately I need to postpone the meetings against Poole and Oxford.”

The Plymouth Gladiators take to the newly adapted Coliseum track this coming Saturday the 23rd March, for Press and Practice day.
Entrance for Season Ticket Holders only is from 10am, with general entry from 12.30pm. Refreshments will be available at the event, which is free to attend, whilst any donations to the club are always gratefully received.
The Plymouth Gladiators have suffered a major blow with big winter signing Nico Covatti injured in a crash in Argentina.
Covatti is due to make his return to UK racing with the Gladiators in the Cab Direct Championship this season and was continuing his winter programme in the International Speedway Championship.
But he was involved in a frightening accident with former Sheffield rider Facundo Albin in the Final of the ninth round, as both came down heavily on the exit of the second bend.
Whilst Albin appears to have avoided serious injury, pending further scans, Covatti suffered arm and leg fractures with surgery to come next Thursday.
He told La Nueva: “We will have to think about when the return to Italy will be after the operation. We are evaluating having my wife come with the baby, and thus be a little more contained here.
“Right now, it’s about being as united as possible. In Italy I will start with rehabilitation and, from there, by the spring of Europe I will be able to start touring.”
Everyone at The Gladiators sends our best wishes to Nico for a quick and speedy recovery.
Further team updates will be provided once available.
