Club Director and Promoter Mark Phillips explained the reasons for the launch:
“We are very mindful that it is a unique week in the history of the United Kingdom to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who has many connections to our Ocean City of Plymouth.
It is very apt that our visitors this week will be The Edinburgh Monarchs, from another City with very proud links to the Monarchy and Royal Family.
It’s a School Holiday and Bank Holiday week and we want to welcome as many families as possible to Plymouth Speedway to both celebrate with us and to have a great night of entertainment.
We have a long and proud tradition of encouraging young and new supporters from our Friday Night NDL days and whilst we’re mindful that whilst Tuesday nights are not often as convenient in school weeks, that this is a school holiday week and we have the main Summer School Holiday and Tourist season fast approaching.
Our fun running races for children allowing them to have a run round the 200 metre Speedway Track in front of family and friends will also be reintroduced.
We appreciate many fans are being affected by the cost of living crisis and we’ve received some very constructive feedback from supporters, many of whom are struggling financially about how we can help them to enjoy a night at the Speedway and the Kids Under 16 GO FREE scheme is the first of a number on initiatives that we are considering, and there will be further news of a number of Community based schemes that we will be launching soon.
All at The Gladiators are also aware that the cost of living crisis is also affecting businesses and our Commercial Team will also be reaching out to local businesses to see how we can support them with initially FREE Advertising and Marketing opportunities.
We don’t believe there is a better family based product to help promote local businesses, than around 90 minutes of exciting speedway, on a warm and sunny summer evening, in a friendly fan based atmosphere with excellent and affordable food and drink facilities.
The chance to support a successful and winning team that are proud to support our great city and South West Region generally is what we are all about, and local businesses like our wonderful sponsors Westcolour Printing and SWTR – South West Tyre Recycling and many others are testament to that.
We’d love to see the stadium packed next Tuesday with our supporters, returning supporters and new and first time families and children, for what promises to be a special and unique occasion graced too by some genuinely world class speedway talent from around the world.
