ROUND UP - Glasgow Tigers V Plymouth Gladiators
Glasgow Tigers secured a 49-41 victory over Plymouth Gladiators in an action-packed meeting filled with dramatic overtakes, hard racing and crucial heat advantages throughout the night.

Despite the defeat, Plymouth team manager Garry May believes the tie remains very much alive heading into the return fixture.

“We needed a few more points, five or six points, and we would have been right there. It didn’t happen,” said May.

“It’s a little bit frustrating because I thought we could have won, but Glasgow’s reserve scored heavily and that was the difference against us. However, eight points down is doable in the return fixture, so we’ll definitely be looking for the bonus point.”
The Tigers made a strong start in Heat 1 with Chris Harris producing a brilliant ride to defeat Plymouth skipper Danny King. King gated and led early on before Harris swept around the outside on lap three with a superb move off bend four to take the win.

Plymouth responded immediately through Anze Grmek in Heat 2. The young Slovenian made a cracking gate and controlled the race from the front to comfortably hold off Hodder and level the scores once again.

Heat 3 saw Glasgow edge ahead after a dominant display from Flint, who stormed around Daniel Klima on the opening lap before pulling clear for an impressive victory. Ben Barker battled hard throughout the race while Klima recovered after briefly dropping to the back.

The Gladiators then produced one of their best moments of the meeting in Heat 6. After Chris Harris was penalised for touching the tapes and forced to start 15 metres behind in the re-run, Plymouth capitalised brilliantly as Scott Nicholls and Grmek combined for a superb 5-1. Harris charged through the field and looked set to challenge for the lead before sliding off on the final lap.
Glasgow responded in Heat 7 with a maximum of their own as Howarth and Hagon gated sharply and quickly established control at the front.

Plymouth continued to battle throughout the middle stages, with Nicholls again impressing in Heat 11 as the tactical substitute move paid off perfectly. Nicholls swept around the outside on the opening lap to take the lead, while Danny King was involved in a thrilling back-and-forth scrap with Howarth before eventually securing second place with a decisive move on lap three to complete a vital Gladiators 5-1.

The visitors struck again in Heat 13 with another maximum heat advantage. Nicholls and King emerged in front exiting bend two on the opening lap and steadily increased their lead while the Glasgow pairing battled behind them.

Glasgow ultimately maintained control thanks to strong reserve performances and another 5-1 in Heat 14. Hagon gated brilliantly and never looked troubled out front, while Barker was involved in one of the races of the night as he traded passes repeatedly with Pedersen before eventually being edged out.

The final heat provided another excellent contest. Nicholls produced a superb move around the outside of Howarth to take the lead, while King and Flint entertained the crowd with a fierce scrap for third place before the Plymouth captain surged clear late on.
Despite the eight-point deficit, Plymouth produced several encouraging performances and will head into the return fixture confident they can challenge strongly for the aggregate bonus point.
