Gladiators defeat The Pirates

The Plymouth Prow Park Gladiators took two BSN points with a 46-44 victory over the Poole Pirates, in another close encounter at The Coliseum.

The Gladiators took early control of the meeting, opening up a 16 point lead after heat 10, but a spirited comeback by the Pirates saw them take maximum heat advantages in the following three races, before a 2-4 in the penultimate heat, reduced the deficit to 2 points and a last heat decider.

A first bend coming together between Ben Barker and Steve Worrall in the nominated heat 15, saw the Pirates Number 1 excluded, with the resulting shared heat seeing the Gladiators home, and inflicting the first defeat of the season for The Pirates, who took the aggregate bonus point overall.

Skipper Kyle Howarth top scored for the Gladiators with 13 (paid 14) backed by Paul Starke (12+2) and Ben Barker (10+1) whilst Dan Gilkes and Jake Turner also chipped in with heat wins.
