Westcolour Gladiators / SWTR Centurions at Leicester – Preview

The Plymouth Westcolour Gladiators travel to Leicester on Saturday evening, to take on the Lions in a key Championship League clash, accompanied by their National Development League colleagues the Plymouth SWTR Centurions, who take on the Leicester Lion Cubs, immediately following the main event.

All Westcolour Gladiators and SWTR Centurions supporters who plan to travel to support the teams are reminded of the earlier than usual start time at Leicester, which will be 6.30pm, to facilitate 30 thrilling heats of speedway action.

Both the Plymouth teams will certainly need to be at their very best with the Lions sat on top of the Championship League following a resounding win at the title favourites, the Poole Pirates on Wednesday night which smashed the Pirates unbeaten Home record apart and sent shockwaves throughout the Sport.

The Westcolour Gladiators though will not lack confidence given their own recent 60-30 point mauling of the Lions at The Coliseum in April.

The Westcolour Gladiators have enlisted the help of the former Leicester Lions double winning 2019 Championship season Captain and UK Speedway legend Scott Nicholls as a Guest for the still injured Edward Kennett and will also include former Lion Hans Andersen in their 1-7 which will be Scott Nicholls; Alfie Bowtell; Ben Barker, Michael Palm-Toft, Hans Andersen, Ben Morley and Harry McGurk.

The Westcolour Gladiators who are unbeaten in 6 home matches have performed above expectations too on their travels so far, winning at the usually impregnable and tricky Scunthorpe circuit, gaining an excellent losing bonus point in a 42-48 defeat against a strong Redcar team and just missing out on a bonus point in an excellent performance losing by 41 points to 49 points at one of the title favourites, the Glasgow Tigers, winning many friends north of the border in the process.

The SWTR Centurions will enlist the assistance of Ben Morley as Guest replacement for the injured Dan Gilkes and again track youngster Ben Phillips as an unattached Guest replacement for the departed Henry Atkins,  in a line up that includes former Lion Cub Ben Trigger. Eli Meadows who missed the most recent SWTR Centurions Fixture at Oxford due to a clash with key college exams also returns to the declared 1-7 of Ben Morley, Ben Trigger, Richard Andrews, Ben Phillips; Adam Extance; Eli Meadows and Connor King.

The SWTR Centutions will also face very strong opposition with the Leicester Lion Cubs currently lying second in the NDL League table behind the leaders the Belle Vue Colts.

We’ll have a full review of both Matches on Sunday morning.
